Meg Parnaby Breaks Clear for Victory
Quarry Road - Sunday 20th May 07

Wintry conditions greeted the fifteen riders who lined up at the Mt Drummond Road start, with several light showers occuring during the 45km race.

The limit riders on fifteen minutes started the race in drizzle but never looked back. Meg Parnaby, Les Power and Larry Bales worked well together for much of the race, until Bales just lost touch over the Sandbar Hill.

Meg and Les carried on until the last series of hills, where Meg made her move, working hard to gain enough of a break to hold off the stronger finish of Les Power.

However the scratch riders were starting to make their presence felt. After loosing Richard Clark to a puncture, Jamie Bennett, Daryl Elliott, Drew Heard and Ian Blackie caught the 2 minute markers of Tony Lloyd, Stuart King, Tom Eldridge and Mike Kelly just before the Sandbar Road corner, and were motoring home.

Parnaby continued to put everything into it, and had enough lead to hang on to cross the line well ahead of Les Power, who followed up his first placing last week with a second placing this week.

Close behind, and led by the powerhouse Ian Blackie, the scratch bunch sprinted for the line. Blackie broke well clear to cross third, and take out fastest race time of 1 hour 13 minutes, with Daryl Elliott the best of the rest.
