Fine mild conditions and a gentle north westerly breeze made for ideal racing conditions last Sunday, a welcome change from the often cold starts of the last month or two.

Riders tackled next weeks VVCC Open course over about 59km, starting at the Halls Gap Hotel, instead of the oval.

Meg Parnaby led off with a 21 minutes start, followed by Les Power on 17 and a half minutes.

The third scratch bunch of Mark Uebergang, Jamie Bennett and Sean Prins made good use of their generous handicap, and were able to pick up Power over McCracken’s Hill. They then set off after Meg Parnaby, catching her with 5km to go.

Meanwhile, scratch riders Alan Barnett, Drew Heard, Tony Lloyd and Leon Gibson had joined forces with second scratch riders Daryl Elliott, Gerard O’Brien, Dean Haywood and Peter Mayo, but this combined bunch were unable to get within sight of the leaders.

In the final sprint, Sean Prins prevailed over Jamie Bennett, with Les Power coming in third.

Leon Gibson was first of the scratch riders to cross the line, and recorded the fastest time of 1 hours 32 minutes 17 seconds.
