Schneider Takes Out A Grade Event
Quarry Road, Sunday 10th May 2009

A cool southerly breeze greeted the fifteen Grampians Vets cyclists who tackled the hilly Quarry Road circuit Sunday morning, before dispersing to do their duty on Mother’s day.

Graded scratch races were held over the 47km course, with riders battling a head wind for the first half of the race, and then heading into the hills for the second half.

Tim Schneider, Danny Monaghan, Harvey Lang, Wayne Klauss, and Dean Hayward made up the A Grade bunch, and remained together until the steepest section of hills about 6 kilometers from home.

This started to sort the field out, but most riders made it to the final sprint, where Tim Schneider showed he was too good for the rest of the field.

B Grade riders Leon Gibson, Sean Prins, Alan Barnett, Tony Lloyd and Daryl Elliott put the pressure on over the final few hills, but the bunch came down to the final sprint, where Tony Lloyd went past a tiring Prins and Gibson to snatch victory.

C Grade riders Tom Eldridge and Peter Parnaby rode a steady pace until the first of the Mount Drummond Road hills, where Peter Parnaby showed his superior hill climbing ability to pull away for a comfortable victory.

D Grade riders Meg Parnaby, Bridget Lang and new rider Tony Rathgeber also split up over the final section of hills, with Meg Parnaby making her break up McCracken’s Hill, then going on to an easy victory.
