Tough day in the saddle at Horsham
Noradjuha 50km graded scratch races
Sunday 27th September 2009

  Tim Schneider

A strong head wind made the outward journey to Noradjuha tough for the small field of riders who fronted for the 50km graded scratch races, from Horsham to Noradjuha and back.

A grade riders Tim Schneider, Alan Barnett, Frank Kean, Daryl Elliott, Sean Prins and Harvey Lang made it out to Noradjuha together, but split on the first of the hills on the homeward journey.

Frank Kean and Tim Schneider lifted the pace, with Daryl Elliott and Harvey Lang first off, followed shortly on the next hill by Alan Barnett and Sean Prins.

Kean and Schneider kept up the pace, and finished well in front with Schneider taking out the sprint from Kean.

B grade riders ( you had to be called Peter to qualify) Peter Parnaby, Peter Blair and Peter Mayo headed off with C grade riders Meg Parnaby and Tony Rathgeber.

After the turn at Noradjuha, Peter Blair showed his strength by kicking up the pace, and tackled the first hill hard, dropping the two C grade riders in the process.

However, Blair faded near the top, allowing Peter Parnaby to break clear and establish a small lead, taking Mayo with him. After a hard ride down the other side, Parnaby kept hitting the next few hills hard, aware of Blairs strength down the hills and along the flats, and with help from Mayo, they slowly pulled away from Blair, who put up a valiant effort for a good 7 or 8 kilometers before fading.

Parnaby went on to take the race, ahead of Mayo.

Tony Rathgeber took out C grade with a clear win from Meg Parnaby.
