Frank Kean wins A Grade at Armstrong
Armstrong Graded Scratch Races
Sunday 8th November 2009

  Frank Kean

As in recent weeks, once again a small number of riders fronted for the Armstrong graded scratch races, held over 7 laps of an undulating course.

The third, fourth and fifth laps all included a hill climb and a flat sprint points, with the first in each taking out 3 points, second getting 2 points and third 1 point.

A grade riders Alan Barnett, Frank Kean, Dean Hayward and visiting Bendigo rider Rick McIntosh set off in the near 30 degree heat, using the first 2 laps to loosen up before the action started.

Frank Kean used his hill climbing ability to take out all the hill climbs, but Rick McIntosh took out several sprints, and also tried to break clear several times, but was hauled back in on each occasion.

On the final lap, Frank Kean broke clear soon after the turn, and gradually pulled away to win the final sprint and the race by a clear margin.

The B grade riders Meg Parnaby, Peter Mayo, Peter Parnaby, Tony Lloyd and Les Power, took it easy for the first 2 laps, then Peter Parnaby took the first hill climb, as well as all the rest.

The sprints were a mixed affair, with Peter Mayo taking out two, Tony Lloyd one and with Les Power always not far away. After the final two laps, Tony Lloyd set off for the charge to the line, providing the perfect lead out for Peter Parnaby, who won the sprint from Peter Mayo. Parnaby also took out the B grade event on points as well.
