Heard Powers to another Win
Noradjuha 50km Handicap
Sunday 28th February 2010

Grampians cyclists tackled the out-and-back Horsham/Noradjuha course on Sunday.

Strong, gusty southerly winds ensured a tough race, as riders battled side winds for much of the distance.

Such conditions usually favour the scratch markers, and so it was to be, but not without a spirited effort from the 12 minute limit bunch of Meg Parnaby, John McIntyre and Damian Rabl, who battled hard and held the lead until the last kilometre.

With Danny Monaghan driving his co-markers Drew Heard, Gerard O’Brien, Daryl Elliot and Sean Prins, the scratch bunch maintained high speeds throughout the race, picking up Peter Mayo, Tony Lloyd and Alan Barnett, and then the 8 minute markers Tom Eldridge, Tony Rathgeber and Les Power on the run home.

The hard riding bunch then reeled in the limit markers inside the last kilometre, and settled in to fight out the finish. O’Brien led out the sprint, but Heard managed to edge in front to win by centimeters on the line, with Elliott coming home in third place.
